A green carpet, prominent personalities and a flurry of camera flashes: The GreenTec Awards will be presented at the Internationalen Congress Center München (ICM) on 4th May. One winner has already been announced: The Club of Rome has won the IFAT Environmental Leadership Award. The world’s largest trade fair for environmental technology takes place at the Messe München trade-fair center from 5th – 9th May, 2014.

The Club of Rome’s primary responsibility is to conduct analyses of possible scenarios for the future of mankind and the planet. Among other things, it examines and evaluates possible ways to make lasting improvements in the quality of life. Otto Schaaf, president of the German Association for Water, Waste Water and Waste (DWA), explains another important reason for the award: “The basic idea behind the Club of Rome is to secure environmental sustainability for mankind. To achieve that, we must sever the link between resource consumption and environmental pollution on the one hand and economic growth and prosperity on the other. Both the Club of Rome and IFAT pursue those objectives.”

Ernst Ulrich von Weizsäcker, co-president of the Club of Rome, understands the significance of this award: “The Club of Rome is honored to accept this award. Receiving the Environmental Leadership Award from IFAT, the world’s largest trade fair for environmental technology, is an acknowledgement of the work we do.” The laudator for this category, Günther H. Oettinger, the EU Commissioner for Energy, will present the award to the Club of Rome.
