Three Hoval UK manufactured SR Plus 600kW gas fired boilers are helping the National Assembly for Wales minimise the energy costs and environmental impact of the award winning Welsh Assembly building – the Senedd.

Designed by the Richard Rogers Partnership, the Assembly building at Cardiff Bay includes a debating chamber capable of accommodating 60 members, along with office and meeting spaces, public areas, private accommodation and catering.

As part of its carbon reduction programme, the National Assembly for Wales decided to replace its old heating plant with Hoval SR Plus boilers, which offer up to 92% net efficiency levels with lox NOx emissions. SR Plus boilers are also highly insulated, reducing standing losses to around 0.3% for even greater energy savings.

The assembly also benefits from lower cost of ownership as the design of the SR Plus reduces the time required for maintenance.

Other sustainable elements in the building include natural ventilation, extensive use of natural daylight, rainwater harvesting and ground source heat pumps. The sustainable design and low environmental impact of the building were recognised in a BREEAM Excellent rating.
