The United Kingdom Lubricants Association (UKLA) Metalworking Fluid Product Stewardship Group (MWFPSG) is pleased to announce the launch Good Practice Guidance for Managing Metalworking Fluid (MWF).
Produced in partnership with the Health & Safety Executive (HSE), including HSE’s Health & Safety Laboratory at Buxton, the guide will be formally launched at Mach 2018 in April and is aimed at supporting end users in the safe handling and disposal of water-mix metalworking fluids, but is equally applicable to neat oils.
The publication is the first time the regulator has worked with the UKLA’s Metalworking Fluid Product Stewardship Group in producing a guide that defines good practice in the workplace. The guide will be available in hard copy at MACH 2018 and as a downloadable pdf from the UKLA’s website at www.ukla.org.uk.
The MWFPSG comprises of sixteen lubricant sector component suppliers, blenders and marketers whose aim is to assist in the education of end users, enhance the health and safety provision to both the members and their customers’ employees and provide qualified, reviewed information to industry and the general public.
Jenny Skeldon, HSE’s manufacturing sector lead on MWF commented that ‘the guidance has been produced in partnership with the industry (UKLA) and contributes to HSE’s wider strategy for Health and Safety ‘Helping Great Britain work well’ in reducing ill health.
Kevin Duncan, Chairman of the Metalworking Fluid Product Stewardship Group said ‘the guide provides an important step for the group in defining what good practice looks like in the workplace and promoting this for the benefit of our end users.’
