Expleo has announced the launch of Smart Services, a new testing service for smart meter systems.

The retail energy sector is gearing up to meet the government target of every home having a smart meter installed by 2020. Successful and reliable testing and assurance will play a crucial role in suppliers meeting this target and avoiding potential fines. With seamless software and firmware, suppliers can focus on getting more smart meters live, rather than troubleshooting issues with existing ones.

Smart Services is an off-the-shelf solution, available to all suppliers, which delivers the full testing and assurance process for smart meter estates including devices, firmware, DCC changes and adapters.

Thanks to Expleo’s standardised methods and a dedicated real-world testing lab, it is said to be able to reduce the ongoing operational cost of assuring change in an energy provider’s smart metering estate by up to 50 per cent. It can also reduce testing timescales for smart metering by 60 per cent.

The new service notably offers access to a ‘one stop shop’ online portal, which gives a real-time view of test progress as well as historical data, and is available on a pay per use commercial model.

Angus Panton, Expleo’s head of energy and utilities said: “Smart Services makes it easy, efficient and cost-effective for retail energy suppliers to outsource smart meter testing.  With less than two years to go until the smart meter rollout target deadline, our solution will not only help the sector towards this goal, but also increase operational efficiencies long into the future.”
