Associated British Ports (ABP) has announced the award of a contract to Siemens Metering, Communications and Services to meter its electricity use at its ports.
ABP has 21 ports in the UK, and under the new arrangement, Siemens will perform half hourly data collection services, collecting regular profile data and providing reliable information on usage to ABP the very next day, using Siemens’ own web-based Sie-Smart data management solution.
Siemens will also provide continuing meter operation services to ABP, which will result in many sites having just one service provider for all their meter operation and data collection services. This will not only help ABP manage energy use across its extensive property estate, but also consolidate its supplier base. This new arrangement adds to the ABP-Siemens relationship, as Siemens is already ABP’s partner in the recently approved planning application for the redevelopment of Hull’s Alexandra Dock as the new Green Port Hull’ – Siemens’ preferred location for a new offshore wind turbine manufacturing and export facility.
Asked why Siemens was chosen for the metering contract, Ian Schofield, ABP engineering director, said, “We already understood the extensive capability that Siemens has by reputation.
