Schneider Electric has partnered with Coronation Street actor and motoring fanatic, Tony Hirst, for this year’s Future Car Challenge (FCC).

Taking place on 3rd November, the FCC is the world’s leading low energy driving challenge, designed to demonstrate the future of motoring.

Now in its third year, the challenge requires entrants to drive a 60 mile route from Brighton to London, using the least amount of energy possible. The event is open to the latest electric, hydrogen and low emission ICE cars.

At the event, Coronation Street actor and avid motoring fan, Tony Hirst will be driving the Schneider Electric branded electric car. As a business committed to a greener future, Schneider Electric continues to pave the way in the development of the UK electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. Currently, Schneider Electric is providing the charging technology in the roll-out of the UK’s very first rapid charging network, being installed across Road Chef motorway service stations nationwide.

David Greaves, business development manager for electric vehicles at Schneider Electric said, “The move towards EV adoption is undoubtedly gaining pace. Only in the last year, we have not only seen continued significant investment in EVs from leading motoring manufacturers, but the progression of the UK’s very first rapid charging network. The result is that electric car ownership will no longer be a niche concern but a compromise-free, tangible alternative to petrol.

“However, whilst progress in the advent of EV is being made, there is still a long way to go and events such as FCC have a major role to play in showcasing the latest advancements and raising awareness of the issue. We are therefore thrilled to be in attendance this year and, even better, to have recognised actor, Tony Hirst on board – we look forward to driving to success on the day.”
