The Abbey Hotel in Bath has refurbished its boiler plant room with energy-saving Remeha replacement boilers in a move that provides 21st century warmth and comfort for its guests whilst improving the energy efficiency of the 18th century, Grade II-listed building.

Four Remeha Gas 210 Eco Pro 5-section boilers were specified to replace the ageing heating plant in a complete redesign of the plant room. Thanks to the compact dimensions and back-to-back installation design of the Gas 210 Eco Pro, Glenn Fry of Neptune Building Services in Gloucester was able to configure the plant room layout to accommodate the high-efficiency boilers in the restricted space during a high occupancy period of 95 per cent with no discomfort to the guests.

“The key aim of the hotel owners was to deliver effective, reliable heating and hot water throughout the hotel with minimum disruption,” said Mr Fry. “The Remeha boilers, which have a reputation for reliability and quality, allowed us to do just that.”

The four Remeha 210 boilers, together with calorifiers, new heating circuits and a boosted domestic system, achieve a design that guarantees full back up and reliability of heat delivery. New BMS controls have been added to enable accurate operation of the boilers and all other plants for further energy savings. Mr Fry again said: “So much energy was wasted previously with the old gas boilers and uninsulated, inefficient pipe work. As a result of this refurb, the hotel stands to reduce water consumption and make realistic energy savings in the region of 40 per cent which equates to up to £10,000 annually.”

For Abbey Hotel owners Ian and Christa Taylor, the heating upgrade marks the final stage in a two-year refurbishment programme which has seen the hotel scoop a number of awards including the coveted Award for Leisure and Tourism at the Bath Business Awards 2013 and three wins at the 2014 Bath Good Food Awards.

“As hoteliers, we are naturally keen to offer our guests every comfort and have introduced bespoke luxury Hypnos beds, flat screen TVs, superfast wifi , DAB radios and REN amenities to bring added comfort to their stay,” said Ian and Christa Taylor. “Now we have added state-of-the-art heating to the mix, which not only brings welcome warmth but helps us with our environmental commitments by lowering our carbon footprint and reducing our energy use – not to mention the lower fuel bills that we’re eagerly anticipating!”

The Remeha Gas 210 Eco Pro Range of compact floor standing condensing boilers offers high efficiencies of 108.6 per cent NCV. With their small footprint and ability to be installed back to back, they are ideally suited for modular configurations in both new build and retrofit applications.
