Opus Energy has recently awarded a smart metering contract to Siemens to support its continuing roll-out programme, delivery of which started in May.

After an initial pilot of 500 installations to test Siemens’ install capability and data presentation, which began in August 2011, Siemens was awarded a number of other install projects. Following the continued success of delivery, Opus Energy has now placed an order for meter operation, data retrieval, processing and aggregation over a five year contract throughout England, Scotland and Wales.

Andy Nash, operations director for Opus Energy, said, “We are very happy with the service from Siemens, which clearly cares about delivering a quality install process and has demonstrated flexibility in managing our needs. Service and attitudes are completely focused on the customer.”

Being able to forecast accurate consumption is key to Opus Energy’s business strategy to procure energy as efficiently as possible. Along with the keenest pricing, its customers are also demanding accurate billing. Customer engagement by Siemens is critical for Opus Energy to minimise disruption when meters are installed, so reliable, ‘first time fit’ installation capability was also a priority for Opus Energy when considering its selection criteria.

The initial pilot and subsequent projects saw service delivery exceeding Opus Energy’s expectations, laying the foundations for mass roll-out in 2012. Nash concluded, “Opus Energy has full confidence in future service delivery from Siemens and we look forward to working together with Siemens on this exciting programme.”
