A Midlands congregation is set to enjoy a warmer 2016 after a church heating specialist joined forces with boiler manufacturer to donate a new heating system to one of the oldest Methodist churches in the region
Potterton Commercial donated two boilers to Salem Methodist Church in Cheslyn Hay, with free installation provided by specialist church heating contractor, Christopher Dunphy Ecclesiastical Limited. The outdated existing heating system – including a 44kW boiler – was beginning to fail and was unlikely to survive much longer. This left the church in a serious predicament as they needed to raise funds to replace the system to ensure the local congregation could comfortably attend services and community events at the church.
The boiler manufacturer was contacted by a member of the congregation to assist with the replacement of the heating system. Potterton Commercial donated two 70kW Sirius wall hung boilers. And, with the added support from Christopher Dunphy Ecclesiastical Limited, the installation time was also donated, with the engineering team working at their own cost.
The combined team also gifted 15 type 33 radiators, as well as two horizontal flue kits and cascade frames. A ‘Spirotech’ controller was also installed to allow centralised control by the churchwarden. The donations by both Potterton Commercial and Christopher Dunphy Ecclesiastical Limited have enabled the church to bring the project forward by two years. Neville Small, sales director at Potterton Commercial said: “We were delighted to offer this church a solution to their system replacement by donating the boilers and system components, and ultimately helping to safeguard the comfort and experience of visitors to the church without delay.
“We have worked closely with Christopher Dunphy Ecclesiastical Limited on 26 projects, heating some of the most architecturally important church buildings across the country and are thrilled that the team there were happy to partner with us for this project.”
Mick Russell, installation manager at Christopher Dunphy Ecclesiastical Limited added: “The new system at Salem Church is designed to operate at maximum efficiency by heating the church quickly with minimum running and maintenance costs – so the church and congregation can be confident that its heating system will be working hard to keep them warm for years to come.”
Peter Brimble, property secretary at Salem Methodist Church, commented: “We are very grateful to both Potterton Commercial and Christopher Dunphy Ecclesiastical Limited for the help and support they have given us in providing equipment and expertise to help us to move forward with the replacement of our heating system for the church.
“The timing was extremely fortuitous because the old equipment was beginning to fail and would probably not have remained in service for much longer. We are also appreciative of the technical support offered to us both in the early design stages and throughout the installation on site. The team has done a first rate job and has enabled us to proceed with this work much earlier than expected, which is so important for the future wellbeing of our church, fellowship and local community.”
