Innovative manufacturer ITL has launched a high volume PCB manufacturing service for medical devices, after upgrading their UK facility

ITL has recently upgraded their automated surface mount line to a Europlacer iineo II and revamped their entire PCB area. The investment, that’s seen them double their PCB manufacturing capacity, will improve efficiency and allow more businesses to take advantage of their services.

ITL is one of only a few companies in the UK that manufactures PCBs to ISO 13485 and FDA GMP standards – the required standards for medical device manufacturing. They have more than 40 years experience in the industry and have manufactured PCBs for companies such as Bedfont Scientific, Optos Inc. and ThermoFisher Scientific. They made their name providing design, manufacturing and after-sales services for medical, diagnostic and laboratory instrumentation and devices and are now looking forward to extending their offering to specialist PCB production.

Tom Cole, ITL’s Chief Executive, said: “We’re excited to expand our capabilities and offer this service to both existing and new customers. We found that most of our customers want to work with a team who have specialised in medical technology from the start. They like that we offer a complete service from initial conceptualisation right through to prototyping and full scale manufacturing and that we know how important electronics are.”

He added: “Investing in new technology means that we can open up our highly controlled, efficient PCB manufacturing service to more companies and take on even more ground-breaking projects. It felt like the right time to make this investment and grow our offering.”

Working with ITL to manufacture PCBs means that quality assurance starts from day one – their PCB manufacturing process is validated in accordance with FDA GMP 21 CFR Part 820 and their automated build and inspection equipment verifies that yields will be high. Where automation is not suitable for certain components, they also have a skilled team of through-hole technicians.

Alex Richardson, ITL’s SMT Team Leader, said: “As well as investing in state-of-the-art technologies, ITL invests in its people – the specialist knowledge of our team helps us attract and retain our customers. They appreciate the advice and guidance that we can offer them if they need it.”
