Members of a Sheffield youth club are enjoying a warmer start to 2016 after striking it lucky with a new heating and hot water system donated by Andrews Water Heaters
Double Six Youth Club provides activities and support to around 120 young people between the ages of eight and 19 each week. The club launched a campaign appealing for help after receiving a £6,000 gas bill, which jeopardised the 50-year-old organisation. As well as the issue of raising money to pay the substantial bill, the club also realised that its existing storage heater was proving inefficient and needed to be replaced, as it heated and stored hot water 24/7 when the club was only open for a couple of days a week.
Faced with the challenge of financing much needed replacements, the club was able to secure expert advice and market leading equipment for free through its connections to Andrews through long-term club supporter, Gary Stoddart. With three generations of the Stoddart family having attended the club, heating professional Gary carried out an initial site survey and worked with club managers to help project manage the work.
Recognising the need to upgrade both the hot water and heating system, the water heating specialist donated a FASTflo condensing 56kW water heater, together with a Sirius Two 60KW boiler from sister brand Potterton Commercial. The new water heater provides visitors with a continuous flow of hot water on demand, meaning water isn’t being needlessly heated and stored. In addition, both appliances are wall-hung, freeing up much needed floor space in the building.
Chris Meir, sales director at Andrews Water Heaters, said: “Having heard from my colleague Gary how valued Double Six is in the local community, we were delighted to provide a new water heater and boiler for the club. I’m certain that the young people and volunteers will continue to enjoy the comfort and cost saving benefits for many years to come.”
Richard Hay at Double Six Youth Club continued: “We’re so grateful for Gary’s help, and for the donations made by both Andrews Water Heaters and Potterton Commercial, which have given the club a new lease of life.
“The cost savings from the replacement of the water heater will make a huge difference to the club. We’re celebrating our 50 year anniversary this year, so the donations have come at a timely part in the club’s history. The new heating system will enable us to further invest in activities and experiences for our members, hopefully allowing us to keep our doors open for another 50 years.”
