Phase 2 of the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) is now halfway through, and Energise Ltd is helping its clients to unravel the complexities of the energy and carbon world, achieve compliance and implement cost-effective energy saving solutions. While the compliance deadline – the 5th of December 2019 – may seem a long way off, it’s never too early to prepare.
ESOS Phase 1 was not without problems for some. Late-stage demand led to high consultancy premiums and incorrect data sets, and many companies failed to implement the energy and financial savings identified. Some 2,800 companies were late complying, a further 1,500 failed to contact the Environment Agency (EA), and around 350 enforcement notices were served. Many organisations believed they were exempt, later discovering to their cost that this was not the case, and only 16 of the 200 companies audited by the EA were compliant without the need for remedial action. With a £50,000 fine for non-compliance – not to mention the bad publicity – it’s vital to get ESOS right. Working with Energise is the easy route to compliance in light of its ESOS Phase 1 success. The deadline for ESOS Phase 2 will come round fast, and companies would be well advised to start the process at the earliest opportunity, whether they are new to ESOS or renewing their compliance. Early engagement will help efficient planning of site visits and audits, minimise disruption to the business and allow data collection challenges to be addressed sooner.
