A global provider of technologies and services for the sustainable use of Earth’s natural resources, completes the product and spare parts phase of their multiphase MDM program.

Orchestra Networks and Twinspark are pleased to report that Outotec–the global leader in minerals and metals processing technology and provider of innovative solutions for industrial water treatment, the utilisation of alternative energy sources and the chemical industry–has successfully completed the first phase of their multidomain MDM program, establishing an enterprise-wide source for their products and spare parts data.

Sustainability is at the core of what Outotec does. They help their customers create the smartest value from natural resources by working with their customers to find the most sustainable solutions for water, energy, minerals, that handle the full value chain (from ore to metals) and guarantee the best return on a customer’s investment with minimised ecological impact.

Master data is as an enterprise resource and developing a sustainable approach to curating this business critical data is paramount in the minds of MDM program teams. “Early on we realised that business team adoption and coverage across the entire master data value chain–from creation, to distribution and performance reporting–was essential to MDM program sustainability,” said Heikki Soini, Senior Manager, MDP, MSC & Eng Applications at Outotec. “Many MDM solutions are far too technical for the business and often rely upon a suite of somewhat integrated components to support the data lifecycle. In contrast, the combination of Orchestra Networks EBX5, is a complete MDM solution. Also, EBX5’s model-driven architecture enables an iterative development approach that lets us address MDM in a step-by-step, low risk manner that is still fast time to value. EBX5 and TwinSpark, the IT advisor, were the right choice for our sustainable MDM program.”

Mastering product and product components was selected for the first phase because of its strong business impact. “Because we tailor our solutions to meet our customers’ needs and provide life cycle services for the solutions, consistent and accurate product component and spare part master data is vital for success. The projected business benefits is why we elected to pursue Product MDM in this first phase,” said Mr. Janne Maijanen item data manager, and owner of products and spare parts data at Outotec.

Organisationally, MDM is viewed as an enabling technologies that supports the strategic themes of customer centricity and one global company with common business processes and tools. Supporting their one global company strategy is why the MDM program team plans on expanding the program to support to support sales, finance, product management and projects in next phases.

“We are happy to see Outotec achieve success in the program to manage their critical data. EBX5, from Orchestra Networks, enables an information architecture based on a fast and iterative development approach. We used prototypes, validated them together with the Outotec team and got new functionality into production fast,” said Mr. Pertti Tuisku, founding partner and CEO, TwinSpark.
