EMSc, manufacturer of the Star range of energy saving solutions, has installed its Powerstar voltage optimisation unit at St Hild’s Church of England School – a specialist engineering college in Hartlepool.
The installation will see the school save £4,795 per annum in electricity costs while also substantially reducing CO2 emissions. Powerstar was installed after Year 8 students at St Hild’s identified the need to effectively reduce the energy output of the school in order to reduce its overall environmental impact and carbon footprint and, in addition to lowering energy consumption by 9.2%, the installation will reduce annual CO2 emissions by 27.1 tonnes, which will decrease the school’s CRC tax payments by £325 per year.
Colin Reid, head teacher at St Hild’s, commented, “As a Church of England school with a strong commitment to the environment and an engineering specialism, St Hild’s prides itself on creating opportunities to bring these areas together. Powerstar has allowed us to do that by providing the most up to date engineering technology specifically designed to reduce carbon emissions to help make our school more energy efficient. The savings are immediately evident and will allow us to invest more of our money into the learning and progress of our students.”
