The brightest innovators in the UK energy sector are being invited to showcase their talents at the annual UK Energy Innovation Awards.

Nominations are now open for the awards, which celebrate ground breaking pioneers working to develop the next generation of energy products and services, culminating in a ceremony at The Radisson Edwardian, Manchester on Thursday 25th April 2013.

Innovative businesses or individuals can put themselves forward for an award, while nominations can also be made on their behalf by clients, advisors or other professionals.

The awards are organised by the Energy Innovation Centre, which is backed by the UK’s largest gas and electricity network operators, many of whom are sponsoring individual categories.

Categories at the 2013 Energy Innovation Awards include:

• Best Energy Network Improvement
• Best Innovation Implemented by a Contractor
• New Energy Innovation Start Up 2013
• Best innovation contributing to customer quality and reliability of supply
• Best International Trade Award
• Best asset security innovation
• Best network safety improvement
• Environmental impact award
• Best Smart Grid Technology

• Growth Innovation of the Year

Previous winners and nominees have gone on to enjoy significant commercial success, such as Furlong Innovations, winner of the ‘Consumer Benefit’ award, whose CombiSave boiler technology is now in manufacture and has won the company several environmental awards.

Denise Massey, managing director of the Energy Innovation Centre, commented, “The awards provide an excellent opportunity to showcase creative talent and innovative thinking in front of an influential audience, while also being a shop window for more developed concepts.

“Our network partners are committed to identifying and developing technologies from around the world that can transform today’s energy networks, so it’s a great arena for enterprising innovators to meet and share ideas.

“There is no requirement to have worked with EIC before – our aim is simply to provide a platform for the very best that the UK’s energy innovation community has to offer and perhaps even discover the next big thing.

“Winning a UK Energy Innovation Award could offer innovative businesses or individuals a chance to achieve a step change in their business and accelerate their ideas towards market success.”
