The Department of Energy and Climate Change and Office of National Statistics has released a report entitled Energy Consumption in the United Kingdom providing detailed analysis of production, transformation and consumption of energy in 2013.

Wayne Mitchell, responsible for npower business customers, said: “Today’s figures show that UK business is using energy at an ever-increasing rate. That is good for the UK economy but not necessarily good for UK business. With new EMR regulations set to come into force on 1st August, the reality is that costs are likely to go up and businesses must prepare for this, whether you’re a major steel manufacturer, a supermarket chain or a single convenience store.

“The UK is on the cusp of a complete shift in the way we plan for energy use and we encourage our customers to consider all the options open to them, from on-site generation to LED lighting. For all types of businesses, regardless of size now is the time to start taking energy efficiency seriously and budgeting for energy use in the medium and long-term. In turn, this will free up vital capital that can be re-invested into other areas of the business and ultimately help improve their bottom line.”
