Engage Consulting, the UK utilities and smart energy consultancy, has joined as a member of SmartGrid GB, the new cross-industry group that promotes the development of smart grids in Great Britain.

Engage Consulting is currently the only utilities and smart energy consultancy in the group, which includes major energy sector players including British Gas, EDF Energy, Scottish Power and UK Power Networks.

SmartGrid GB is championing the development of smart metering and smart infrastructure across Great Britain. Its remit spans the entire ecosystem of Smart Grid – from the benefits to the consumer and the environment to its wider economic impact.

Amy Cooke (pictured), director of business development at Engage Consulting, believes that SmartGrid GB will have an important role in shaping the future of energy delivery, supply and management. She said, “Better cross industry communication and alignment will help to make Smart Grid a success and that is what SmartGrid GB is here to do. Engage Consulting has extensive experience in smart metering ranges from technology through to commercialisation and policy, and we are looking forward to bringing that experience into play with SmartGrid GB.”

Commenting on Engage Consulting’s membership, Lord O’Neill of Clamannan, chairman of SmartGrid GB, added, “Over the next few decades every country around the world is going to have to switch to Smart Grid. This is a massive growth opportunity for our country and I’m delighted Engage Consulting is joining with SmartGrid GB to help drive that growth. We have the skills, capabilities and technologies to become world leaders. But the competition is moving fast and unless we get moving we’ll miss out on growth and jobs. The government talks about having a new industrial strategy and picking races not winners. Well Smart Grid is a race worth winning!”
