UK Power Reserve (UKPR), an independent developer and operator of smart, flexible power generation has launched an Android version of their iGridUK app. This is due to popular demand after releasing the original iOS version for iPhone and iPad in early 2014.

Developed in-house by UKPR’s team, the app allows users to access multiple sources of electricity market information relating to security of supply. This includes the UK’s real time energy mix. The information is relayed through the iGridUK app on a live or near live basis, enabling users to be informed of the most up to date information available. Users can also access archival information of several market databases.

Since 2009 UKPR has been working in smart flexible power generation, enhancing their ability to help maintain security of supply for National Grid. The company has previously developed and built a Virtual Power Station (VPS) using proprietary UKPR-designed SCADA systems to provide real time monitoring and control of their power station network and provision of Demand Side Response (DSR) from their central control room in Solihull.

The iGridUK App further adds to their track record in smart energy. The App brings together a number of information streams to one place and provides users with access to critical real time energy market and system information whilst on the move. This information is essential to the decision making processes involved when delivering services and generation in the UK electricity industry.

The app has a number of reporting functions, which include:

•             STOR Volumes

•             Cashout Prices

•             Embedded Solar

•             Embedded Wind

•             Wind Forecasting

•             Live UK Generation Mix

•             TRIADs

•             Alert Me for DSBR and emergency instructions

•             System Warnings

•             System Frequency

•             Real time UK Consumer Demand

•             Forecast Demand

•             Peak Forecasts

•             Market Imbalance

UKPR aims to educate end users to know when to turn down power consumption through Demand Reduction (DR) and DSR. iGridUK enables users to take the pulse of National Grid by viewing the rolling system frequency as National Grid’s control room takes constant actions keep the lights on for the country. By unifying such crucial information into one app, energy market participants can keep their finger on the pulse whilst on the move. This creates a smarter industry.

Commenting on the Android iGridUK App release, Tim Emrich, chief executive officer, UKPR said: “The UK Power Reserve team is proud to have conceived and developed the iGridUK app earlier this year. We received numerous requests for an Android version after releasing the original iOS version and are pleased to respond to them in this way. This original concept has opened new channels for us to share our knowledge with customers, partners and the public, allowing us to open the ‘black box’ of how the energy market and smart grid operates in real time. We will continue to lead the way in digital innovation within the energy sector by further developing iGridUK and adding more features, particularly when requested by the user base.”
